By Valerie Edwards For Dailymail.com , A Florida woman has been arrested over what police are calling ‘one of the worst animal cruelty cases’ after she allegedly let her Rottweiler puppy to death inside her home.
Terri Redstone, 49, was taken into custody on Saturday after the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a foul smell coming from the woman’s home.
The caller reported not seeing Redstone for several days, adding that there was a ‘pungent odor emitting from the home and insects gathering on the inside of the windows’.

According to authorities, the one-year-old Rottweiler had been locked in a crate (pictured) and its body was in advance stages of decomposition

Responding officers said they observed, through a window of the home, a small whippet running through the home as well as the decomposing body of a Rottweiler puppy.
According to authorities, the one-year-old Rottweiler had been locked in a crate and its body was in advance stages of decomposition.
At the time, Redstone was still not home and upon reaching her, the deputies requested she return to the residence.

Redstone admitted to not feeding or caring for the Rottweiler for more than two weeks, despite their being several bags of dog food inside and outside the home.
‘[She] doesn’t stay in a crate all the time. But a good majority of the time,’ Redstone told the officers.

Redstone was arrested and charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals
Deputies said Redstone had intentionally neglected the dog in the crate.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated: ‘This is one of the worst animal cruelty cases we have seen.
‘She intentionally neglected this one year old Rottweiler, leaving it in the crate for several weeks to die. No animal should have to suffer such a death.’
Detectives estimated that based on the decomposition and insect activity, the Rottweiler had been dead for three to four weeks.
Authorities said they were forced to use respiratory protection while entering the home because of its deplorable living conditions.
Redstone was arrested and charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals.
She was released on $5,000.00 bond. The whippet was removed from the home by animal control.
